Proactive vs Reactive People

ARE YOU A PROACTIVE OR REACTIVE PERSON?
A lot of people, if not everyone, will encounter some form
of challenge in life. Oftentimes many will choose not to address the issue,
while others might do so from an irrational approach. However, problems only compound
if a person allow their emotions to take control of their decision-making process.
Negative and emotional responses such as anxiety, depression, withdrawal, fear,
denial, anger, procrastination, etc. can do more harm than good. Kristenson
(2022) suggests that the way “we
choose to “master the moment” can make the difference between proactive versus
reactive” solutions.
When it comes to
tackling life’s demands people tend to fall into one of two categories when addressing the
demands of their lives: proactive or reactive. Knowing that it’s healthier
to exercise and lower your risk of a heart attack, but waiting until you have
one before changing your behavior is a comparison of the difference between proactivity
and reactivity. Being
proactive is to take the initiative to
address problems that might evolve instead of being passive, indecisive, or indifferent
about the issue. “Reactive people tend to focus on short-term solutions rather than plan for the long term.”
Kristenson (2022)
So how do one
move from being reactive to proactive? Some researchers suggests taking the
following steps:
1. Take charge by setting reasonable goals
Break down your goals into smaller, more achievable tasks.
2.
Plan and prepare for
the unexpected
Write down
your short-term and long-term goals.
Have a plan of action and track your progress.
3.
Act responsibly;
make changes in habits or behaviors to live a healthier and more productive
life
Set deadlines for each task and make sure to hold
yourself accountable.
4.
Do your research,
make sure you know how to prepare ad why
Seek help
and advice from people who have achieved similar goals.
5. Celebrate your achievements and reinforce the positive results
Reward yourself for each milestone you reach.
Remember that
any change for the better will not seem easy at first but with determination your
goals can be reached. Stay positive and focused and proactive!

Very true. We have a tendency to react first and later find out the steps later. Having a plan inplace is first mental. Putting it in motion is physical. Accomplishing is productive...
ReplyDeleteI like to be proactive, however, others believes that's not always a good thing. I try anticipate problems before they happen. Someone will say to me. Why worry about some that hasn't happened. Think positive and positive things will happen. Or just pray about it. I have to go with my gut feeling. And that's what I do. If nothing bad happened. At least I was prepared
