A Pot of Simplici-T

     Let’s face it, we live in a society that suggests that doing more and having more is the key to a successful life. However, those things can create stresses, burdens, and unrealistic expectations that’s hard for people to live up to. A simpler and less complicated life can make all the difference to our overall well-being. Simplifying your life is not just a process of rearranging schedules or minimizing the clutter of one’s home. It is more about taking care of yourself. When properly applied, it can encourage a person to slow down physically and psychologically to prioritize and focus on what’s important. Simplification can help to manage the things you need or want to do. 

     So, why is this a topic for this discussion? I’m glad you asked! I had an epiphany! I recently moved from one state to another, and that’s when I got to see all the boxes of things delivered sitting before me. As the boxes were opened, I realized that some of those things I now no longer need or want. Not to mention, the day everything was dropped off, I got so ill that I was recommended to rest by physicians, family, and friends. But how? I wondered. All I saw and thought about was what I believed I needed to get done sooner than later. It’s been almost three weeks and I’m just now getting the strength I need to get things done. Guess what! I discovered I was wrong for perceiving things would fall apart if I couldn’t get to it right then and there. And since I got the chance to slow down and think, I’ve been able to prioritize, organize, and minimize the items I no longer wish to hold onto. As Amy Morin (2018) best put it, “I discovered that having less stuff” left me with “fewer obligations.” It truly feels freeing, and it seems to make me feel less stressed as I reduce and eliminate the clutter. 

Check out these five tips that Psychology Today suggests can help you simplify your life:

     (1) Declutter you house: cleaned, organized and opened living spaces truly does impact your mental and physical well-being

     (2) Get rid of bad mental habits: say no to ‘toxic thoughts’ and “make space for healthier thinking habits—like gratitude, self-compassion, and realistic self-talk.”

     (3) Cut out toxic people: set “healthy boundaries,” and maybe consider whether you ought to sever ties if you find those boundaries are not working for you mentally or physically.

      (4) Take charge of your money: take control of your finances before they have control over you. Create a reasonable budget and stay on course to reach your goal.

      (5) Gain control of your time: Choose relevancy over just doing things. “Don't go through life being busy and passing time. Stop doing things that are wasting precious minutes, such as complaining, mindlessly scrolling through social media, or waiting for things to happen.”

    1. Thanks for putting into the T time. Moving helps us to deciliter our lives, but until we recondition our mindset, we'll face the same dilemma where we go. Such is the case in life. If we don't change, we could find ourselves stuck in a rut and feeling defeated. This has changed my mindset once and for all and thankfully for the better. That's worth a sip... :-)

  3. Yes, great point. Take control of your finances. I do a Budget every month. It's not so much that I save more money. I stop spending money on things I don't need. I don't need candy, more sneakers and clothes. Less is Better

I’ve learned that Openness creates room to breathe, to think, to refresh, to focus, to prioritize, to organize things & people in our life can lead to Peace! Taking the steps necessary to simplify your life by letting No be No & Yes be Yes will make life a whole lot more enjoyable! I’ve learned it’s ok to Let it Go
